Canceled Football Season
A youth football team in St. Louis got a season canceled after a parent shot the coach multiple times for not including their son in any of the teams' games. On October 10th, police responded to the coach who suffered from serious injury after being shot by the parent. The statement said that the parent approached the coach and ultimately "shot him multiple times" even though he was unarmed. According to police and jail records, the suspect, Daryl Brian Clemmons, was detained and charged with armed criminal action and first-degree assault. Until his trial, he was mandated to remain in custody without bail, according to court documents.
Coach of the Bad Boyz Team Latimore claimed to have been shot four times and grazed once, according to CNN affiliate KSDK. He told the news station, "I still have gunshot fragments in my body; I can still feel it, but by the grace of God man, I'm blessed and I'm still here. Latimore's wife told KSDK that she didn't tell their three kids about his gunshot until she was sure he would make a full recovery. "After a series of incidents perpetuated by adults that culminated in Tuesday's (October 10) shooting, the Recreation Division decided to suspend the team's participation in the CityRec Legends Football league," according to a statement from St. Louis city government spokesperson Nick Dunne. "League rules are in place to ensure the protection of our youth participants, ages 5 to 13, and we will continue to uphold the rules to ensure that this football season is safe and successful," Dunne's statement added.
